My research program aims to apply algorithms and computation techniques derived from computer vision, pattern recognition, parallel computing and information systems to various problems arising in the biomedical sciences. I direct an active interdisciplinary reseach program in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology in collaboration with the Department of Genetics and the AGTEC Center at the University of Georgia. I am in the process of expanding the research program to include Biomedical Imaging and Visualization for Computer-assisted Surgery. My goal is to apply concepts and computational techniques derived from Computer Science and Information Technology to problems in the Biomedical Sciences. The result of my research efforts would be a suite of software tools for automated or computer-assisted analysis and visualization of, typically image-based, data arising from biomedical experiments or clinical tests.
